“Getting my finances in order is such a relief. With Path, I feel I’m in safe hands.”

53-year old Mary Deigan, from Plymouth, is a part-time dyslexia assessor and a full-time home educator. After coming out of a long-term relationship, she was inspired to overhaul her finances and make sure that her money was aligned with her values.

Mary says:

“I decided to take a closer look at my finances following the breakdown of a long-term relationship. I’ve always managed my own money, but hadn’t properly sat down and looked at my financial situation for a very long time – probably 20 years or so. I was long overdue a financial overhaul – I wanted to consolidate my three pensions to get everything in one fund, and I was very keen to go for a green, sustainable option.

“Deciding who to trust with your finances is such an important decision. I wanted to be certain that I was going with an advisor who I could trust and who was actually as ethical as they appeared to be. I did a lot of research, and finally came across Path last year through an article in The Guardian.

“I’m a secretary for a local Amnesty group, I shop ethically and try to be as green as possible in every aspect of my life. So, ensuring that my money is invested in a sustainable way that is doing something positive is very important to me. I was particularly looking to ensure that my money was doing the right thing when it comes to human rights, the supply chain and how workers are treated. I was also keen to avoid investing in anything relating to animal testing, tobacco or arms. With Path, I can be completely confident that my money is having a positive impact and not invested in anything that goes against my own values. Plus, there’s no need to sacrifice performance – I think that more and more people are realising this now.

“My adviser, Rowan, is absolutely brilliant. She is so knowledgeable and incredibly thorough. Everything is made really clear and easy to understand. I’m kept informed every step of the way and given plenty of time to make decisions on what to do with my money – I never feel pushed or pressured at all.

“I find Path to be trustworthy and I feel completely confident that they truly have my best interests at heart. This is something that I haven’t felt with other financial advisors in the past, who often seem to prioritise making money above anything else.

“I’ve also really appreciated having a female adviser, who really understands my situation. As a single parent to a teenager with autism, it can be hard to balance family life with tasks such as managing my finances. Rowan really understands this and has been incredibly supportive every step of the way.

“My finances are in really good order now. There has obviously been a lot of market instability recently, but with Path I feel like I’m in safe hands and don’t need to be worried. It feels like such a relief and really takes the pressure off.

“If you’re looking at overhauling your finances or want reassurance that your money is doing good for the planet, I’d highly recommend Rowan and the Path team.”
