Really clear, honest and patient IFAs, with a great range of ethical products

I’ve been dissatisfied for some years with my private pension provider. It’s very important to me to use my one reasonably-sized pot of money for environmental & social good – or at the very least, to cause minimal harm but every time I asked questions about this, I was fobbed off with non-answers that merely demonstrated the depth of the ignorance of my IFA and pension provider.

I found Path Financial through Ethical Consumer and they have been superb throughout. Everything has been clearly and patiently explained and the written materials I have been sent were really clear and readable: I say that as someone whose eyes tend to glaze over when confronted by pension reports but the ones I get from Path are really informative.

When my Path adviser showed me the analysis they had undertaken of my former pension, it was clear why I never got a straight answer – investments in fossil fuels, armaments and all sorts of other horrors.

With the Path, I am confident my fund is working for a livable future for me, my kids and grandkids and, even through tricky financial periods, it has held its own well. And, although the short-term returns of impact investing may not always match those of investing in death & destruction, I have been pleased with the ongoing value of my fund and reassured that, as fossil fuels increasingly become stranded assets, I won’t be stranded in dead funds.

I had a brilliant experience with The Path. I was taken step-by-step through my finances over several months, and Luke explained my options in a clear, encouraging non-patronising way. Honest, approachable, transparent financial advice

I have had a few meetings with Rowan at The Path. I have felt like a load has been taken off my shoulders. This company should win awards (if they haven’t already). The amount of work they put into each and every person they work with is incredible. You pay them out of your assets so no horrible invoices arrive (and it’s in their interest to make your assets grow!) I realise my pension (like most pensions) has been invested unethically up until now and that it really doesn’t have to be this way. Ethical investment is the future. Fixing where you invest is said to be better for the planet than 25 electric cars! On a more personal note I have found Rowan to be just excellent. More than just an ethical pension

I came to Path simply looking to switch to an ethical pension but I got much more. The service was far more personalised and tailored than I expected; Luke clearly and patiently guided and talked me through the process, his recommendations, my current investments and how Path invest. More than just ethical investors

Ethical investment for me is not just where the investments are made, but how they are made too. With the death of my wife earlier this year, the whole Path team have been not just highly professional, but supportive and kind in their approach. I was looking to invest my pension in greener options that moved away from fossil fuel and other such investments. An initial meeting as well as catch up meetings, where needed with Luke, really helped at each step. I understood the process and what would happen, as everything was explained in a clear manner. Luke was transparent about how the The Path operate and costs of their service. I was given a simple and comprehensive summary of what they could offer based on my results compared to my previous pension provider. When idealism turns into pragmatism

Maybe I would have liked to get a better idea of the different roles of the different organisations involved, beyond Path, as this was and still is all quite new to me and I had to let go of a number of assumptions and hopes and replace it with some pragmatism and acceptance of a rather rigid reality of the investment world. But Luke Sword has been very supportive and patient, while I was trying to get my head around the different modalities and constructions.

Confidence-inspiring ethical choice

Luke has been really insightful and helpful throughout the process and I feel like I’m in a safe pair of hands, knowing my pension is only invested in areas I’m comfortable with. The way the process is set up means I could be really clear on my preferences and he could advise me on what options would align best with those, and from a risk point of view helped me consider where I might want to be a bit more or less open. He was able to answer all my questions along the way, and wasn’t too pushy but gently nudged when I’d forgotten to fill in a form so kept the process on track.

Friendly and knowledgeable advice from a professional company

I contacted Path Financial as I had a lump sum that I wanted to invest, but felt uncomfortable with the conventional options of investing in housing or murky pension funds with money in the oil and gas industry. I had been with my previous financial adviser for quite a long time. However, for a number of years I wanted to move my investments to ethical platforms. I started doing quite a lot of research around; and although my previous adviser offered a few ethical options, they didn’t have the expertise on this field and the options were limited. I also felt that they were not really believers of ethical investments. When I asked specifically to not make any investments in companies that support animal experimentation, they only offered one high risk option. However, I had already been talking to Luke Sword from The Path, who was very professional and knowledgeable regarding ethical investments along the way. Options don’t seem to be limited to one company, and they don’t have to be of high risk. Luke was very supportive and answered all my questions thoroughly. Meetings were done over Zoom and I didn’t feel that I was pushed to make a decision. I felt that Luke’s knowledge and helpful advice would have enough weight for me to make the final jump over to The Path. I can’t comment on how the performance will be in the future as it’s too soon to say. However, I have the confidence that Luke will be always available to offer knowledgeable support.

What a great service!

On first contacting the Path I was struck by how responsive and personable it felt. Green investing and cash flow planning

I approached Path to explore further ethical, and environmentally orientated ways of investing, and to validate that my existing investment plans, and future cash flow plans were sound. It made a refreshing change to talk to Luke, who from my personal perspective, was a rare individual who completely understood the nature of green investing, and was someone I felt I could really engage with as someone who cares passionately about the climate, and the environmental crisis we all face. Luke was able to explain clearly the services offered by Path, and their different approaches to green investing. Luke was also able to perform detailed cash flow modelling to support future financial planning, and decision making. It was clear from Luke’s research, the modelling, and from our high-quality, and constructive discussions that my personal strategy was sound, and was the right fit for me. Luke fully acknowledge this, and did not try to direct me down any alternative paths.
