Our ethos

Leading ethical financial advisers who grow your wealth while investing for people and planet

We are believed to be the first financial planning firm, set up purposefully to tackle climate change and make a positive difference in the world rather than focusing on performance and profit alone.

It’s our mission to help our clients plan for their financial future while investing for a sustainable future for everyone. We believe that personal values and ethics have as much of a priority in financial planning as ensuring security for you and your family.

We offer sensible, practical financial advice and wealth management, with a team of expert Path Financial Planners and our wider Path support team, who are as equally passionate and motivated by our environmental and social impact as our valued clients.

Our purpose is to help you invest with integrity, provide positive impact with positive returns and protect people and planet for generations to come.

Our values

We monitor and review all aspects of our business including environmental impact on a regular basis and aim to reduce negative impacts where we can.

Where possible, we choose to deal directly with like-minded suppliers and contractors who share our values and environmental concerns and have a commitment to continually improve and monitor our environmental performance.

We are committed to operational excellence and reaching the highest quality in all our standards, with a policy of honesty and integrity at our heart.

We have been set up from scratch to ensure that everything we do is based on best-of-breed principles. This means our business is set up on proven investment models and with the most robust processes.

You do not have to sacrifice financial performance and security in order to invest for a better world.

Attitudes to investing are changing

More of us than ever are questioning where our hard-earned savings and pensions are held, and the long-term impact that our personal investments are having on both people, and the future of our planet.

At Path Financial we invest for Positive Impact – and only Positive Impact.

What is positive impact investing?

There has been a huge rise in green technology, renewable energy production and innovative business models tackling climate change – and this provides more opportunities than ever for individual investors to align their savings to their personal values.

Many people have heard of ethical investing, socially responsible funds or Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) – strategies that exclude investment into industry such as fossil fuels, alcohol, gambling or controversial weapons and identify companies that may be risky in future.  But to make a bigger difference within the world, we need to reinvest our money into clean and sustainable business that is actively making a difference to some of the world’s most urgent problems.

Choosing to invest for Positive Impact not only focuses on climate concerns and social change – it’s a smart investment decision in our changing world.

Path’s Positive Impact strategy does not mean sacrificing financial performance or financial security in your future – our portfolio returns are comparable to conventional investment funds, while avoiding potential future risks such as stranded assets, changes to climate legislation, and changes to consumer behaviour as the world moves away from carbon-intensive industry and those involved with poor environmental and social practices.

  • Path

    Impact Investment

We see impact investment as positive selection and positive inclusion, sitting at the top of the ethical investment hierarchy. Primarily selecting funds that invest in businesses that contribute towards the preservation of the environment or benefit society through their products and services. It covers a number of themes. Where it comes to tackling climate change and investing in the sustainable economy of the future, impact investors are investing in companies that are producing renewable energy, developing green technologies, sustainably managing forests, or applying innovative business models that combat climate degradation.

This approach may still include some business that have some negative aspects but who have a strong and proven commitment towards reform and the transition to sustainability. At Path we recognise that shareholder power to influence and accelerate reform is vital, so we are open to investing in companies who are “on the right path”.

For us, Impact Investment requires intentionality: fund managers and portfolio companies must proactively track, measure and report on their social and environmental impact.

  • Environmental and Social Governance (ESG)

ESG are factors employed to measure the sustainability and societal impact of a business. They are often a useful indicator to measure how good (in more than one sense) a company’s management is.

Furthermore, ESG analysis can often expose risk meaning these metrics are increasingly used in mainstream data to inform predictions of future financial results. ESG metrics are used to assess positive and negative impact, as well as risk and opportunity.

  • Socially Responsible Investing

Generally speaking, this is the most basic level of screening where companies with negative social activities are excluded. Typically, such funds would not allow investments in companies where a significant part of its activities include alcohol, tobacco, fast food, gambling, pornography, weapons, the military, or increasingly, fossil fuel production.

The UN Sustainable Development Goals

Path’s Portfolios are aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals – the blueprint for all countries to promote development that not only meets the needs of people and planet today but builds resilience and sustainability for our future generations.

We select the best of breed investment analysts who are dedicated to building well-diversified Positive Impact portfolios, seeking investment opportunities that concentrate on both individual targets, and wider goals such as Climate Action, Social Welfare and Responsible Consumption and Production.
